English: Opened in 1977, the FreemanN Hospital is one of the two main hospitals in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, along with the Royal Victoria Infirmary. This has been the case since the completion of a re-organisation running from 2005 to 2010 which saw the transfer of most services from the city's third general hospital, Newcastle General Hospital, to the Freeman and RVI.
  • N - Unrelated to the Freemen of Newcastle, who along with the city's Corporation had a role in establishing the RVI, the Freeman Hospital is named after the road that runs along its western side, Freeman Road. This was previously named Newton Road after the Lord Mayor Henry W Newton, until being renamed in 1928 after the Freeman family, who through several generations named Patrick "Paddy" had farmed nearby since 1795. The park and pond on the other side of the road had long since been known as Paddy Freemans Park - as a wide open flat area it is often used as a landing spot for helicopters carrying transplant organs destined for the hospital.
