English: Sam'al is to the south of Gaziantep, near Fevzipasha train station. It was founded at a crossroad, with strategic importance and commercial possibilites, where the roads from the west, having passed through mountain passes continue on the eastern slopes of the Amanus ranges, to reach the Halys valley in the north and the Euphrates in the east. The ruins of Sam'al (Sinjerli) brough to daylight during the German excavations under the direction of C. Humann, F Luschan and R. Koldewey in the years 1882-1894 give an idea about the city fortification gates, palaces and late Hittite cities in general. Apart from tis, the reliefs on the orthostats of the city gates and lower parts of the palace walls reflect the stylistic characteristics of late Hittite art.
