English: The fourrée coins (also called suberatus from the Latin sub-aere, i.e. with the bronze (aes) found underneath, inside), is an ancient counterfeit coin characterized by a non-precious metal round (mostly bronze) covered with precious metal to have the appearance of a regular coin. Usually produced by counterfeiters, it could also be made by state authorities in times of financial crisis.
