The Catholic priests in charge of a parish (a curate and his vicars)live in a house next to the church which, in France, is called presbytery.Small village presbyteries have disappeared now as the number of priests and church goers has been decreasing since the middle of the 20th century. Many presbyteries have been sold and turned into private houses and sometimes into town halls.
