July 1958: established as Guided Missile Service Squadron 2 (GMGRU-2) "Redtails";
1960: redesignated Utility Squadron 8 (VU-8);
July 1965: redesignated Fleet Composite Squadron 8 (VC-8);
23 August 2003: disestablished.
