The Fischer & McDonald Building at 88 Yesler Way was built by Henry Yesler in 1892 for the Fischer & McDonald wholesale grocery firm. Prior to the great Seattle Fire this was the site of the Post Office located in a small wood frame building. The Fischer & McDonald Building was designed by Emil De Neuf, (former employee of the then disgraced Elmer Fisher) who at the same time was overseeing the completion of Yesler's adjoining self-titled building, which would later be known as the Mutual Life Building. De Neuf designed this building specifically for the grocery company's needs with large steel floor joists, freight elevators a built-in stand pipe for fire control and the top floor fitted out for coffee roasting. It later became the Post Hotel.
