English: Fenwick is an independent chain of department stores in the United Kingdom. The flagship store is in Newcastle upon Tyne, which also serves as the company headquarters. Named after its founder, John James Fenwick, the Newcastle store was the first to be opened, in 1882. Although the company name is singular, it's also commonly referred to as Fenwick's or Fenwicks. Still family owned, it remains a limited company, Fenwick Ltd. Fenwick also have three stores which don't trade under the Fenwick name, instead retaining their previous identities after being acquired by the company - two trading as Bentalls (purchased in 2001) and a third called Williams & Griffin (2008). As of 2013 there were 11 Fenwick stores, including the Williams & Griffin and Bentalls sites, making it the largest independent department store group in the UK.
