Fan Yuanlian (范源濂, 1876-1927) was minister of education for China in 1917.
He was born at Hsiang-ying Hsien in Hunan, in 1876. He attended the Shi Hu School, in Hunan, in 1899. After his graduation he went to Japan and attended the Normal College of Tokyo receiving a degree in education. He then took courses at the Law College, but did not graduate with a degree. He returned to China and was hired by the Board of Education as their councilor. Later he became the Vice-President of Tsing Hua College. In 1912 during the Republic he was appointed by Yuan Shikai, as Secretary to the President’s office. In April of 1912 he was promoted to be Vice-Minister of Education. After the resignation of Cai Yuanpei in 1917, he became the Minister of Education.
