F. Wynn Graham was one of the artists whose work was purchased in the first watercolor competition held by the Section of Fine Arts for the decoration of the Carville, Louisiana, Marine Hospital.

  • "Carville, Louisiana, Marine Hospital Water Color Awards". Bulletin 23, Section of Fine Arts, United States Public Buildings Administration, March 1941, page 6.
  • Oral history interview with F. Wynn Graham, 1965 July 22 — Excerpt:
There was an announcement that the Treasury Department would buy 300 watercolors, and they did, and there were 5,000 submitted from which they chose 300. ... It was nationwide and there never has been, so far as I know, before or since, any such public competition which was paid for by the government, and this, of course, had nothing to do with WPA. It was national funds on an open competition basis. It was very nice. .. And of course these watercolors got marvelous publicity because they were shipped to all the name museums in the country for about a year and then placed in government buildings. I know mine went to the Marie Carvel [sic] Louisiana Hospital for Lepers."
    • Graham also speaks of her work for the Federal Art Project in New York.
