Italiano: All'epoca dell'imperatore bizantino Giustiniano, poco dopo la metà del VI sec., sull'acropoli venne costruita una fortezza quadrangolare, utilizzando quasi esclusivamente materiale del santuario. L'acropoli venne cinta da mura. Nel secolo successivo si registrò lo spostamento di molti abitanti da alcuni settori della città antica verso l'acropoli. A nord ovest della città venne costruita una nuova piccola chiesa (scavata e studiata, ora reinterrata). Il castrum fu abbandonato forse nel IX secolo. Comunque protetta dalle fortificazioni bizantine dell'acropoli, l'attività commerciale di Egnazia proseguì ancora, forse fino al XIII sec.
English: At the time of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, shortly after the middle of the 6th century, a quadrangular fortress was built on the acropolis, using almost exclusively material from the sanctuary. The acropolis was surrounded by walls. In the following century, many inhabitants moved from some sectors of the ancient city to the acropolis. To the northwest of the city a new small church was built (excavated and studied, now reburied). The castrum was abandoned perhaps in the 9th century. However, protected by the Byzantine fortifications of the acropolis, the commercial activity of Egnatia continued, perhaps until the thirteenth century.
