English: The chancel window of St. Nicholas's Church incorporates roundels of Netherlandish glass mainly of the 16th century. The roundels were presented to the church in 1812 by Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Earl of Roden. Originally, the lower three registers of the east window were covered by wooden panelling, leaving just three registers visible (see old photo from stnicholas-greenchurchdundalk.com) and this sketch. This state is documented in the article by Garstin. In 1960 the window was relaid with a new composition by Patrick Pollen. The wooden panelling that covered the lower half of the window was removed in 1972, the window was subsequentially relaid. This state is fully documented with photographs in the article by Cole. Unfortunately 13 panels (mainly from the two lower registers) were smashed by vandals in August 1997 (see Priceless glass destroyed, Belfast Telegraph, 29 August 1997, p. 7 and Elaine Keogh, Church attack file goes to DPP, Irish Independent, 1 September 1997, p. 7) with the consequence that multiple roundels were lost and/or just fragments survived.
