The EL36 was developed as a sweep tube for TV sets and is mainly used as such. It is not related to the British EL36-GB audio output pentode which uses a different socket and has no anode cap.
The original Philips-Mullard EL36 was a pentode, but numerous second-source EL36 were beam tetrodes.
