The EAK (Elektro-Apparatefabrik Köppelsdorf) was established in 1944 as the site for the equipment evacuated (or plundered, pick your choice) from the VEF plant in Riga. However, trains with this equipment mostly vanished in the fog of war. In 1945 the Soviets took their turn to dismantle and take home the Köppelsdorf factory, but this again was not completed. The factory recovered; in 1952-1953 it was nationalized and integrated in the VEB Stern-Sonneberg group.[1]
