This is a set including book cover and seven pictures of a Quaker Yearly Meeting in London, England, in May 1861. They arrive on Epsom Derby Day, they sit in the galleries (men facing women) of the Friends Meeting House, chat in the yard outside, visit a confectioner and draper, and lastly visit the 1861 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Discreetly hidden within the pictures is the delicately-implied progress of a meeting, courtship and romance between a tall young man in a stovepipe hat and the daughter of the American Quaker family seen on the cover, where the father wears an American hat. It so happens that the British artist, J.J. Willson, married an American-born woman in October 1861.
