There used to be a superb castle there, built around 1625 by Germain Texier, "conseiller à la chambre des comptes", who had bought the nearby castle and domain of Malicorne in 1632 but did not like his dwelling there and decided to build a stylish place between Malicorne and Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne.
The castle of Hautedeuille was pulled down in the 1970's after having fallen into utter disrepair. A children holiday center was built in its stead, while keeping some of the old outer buildings, the moat around the castle and the entrance gate.
Le château d'Hautefeuille avait été construit vers 1635 par Germain Texier, conseiller à la chambre des comptes, qui avait acheté par décret le domaine et château de Malicorne en 1632 mais n'en aimait pas le château (appelé "Plessis"). Il en fit donc construire un autre, beaucoup plus stylé, sur la butte dominant Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne, qu'il nomma "Hautefeuille" ; et prit le titre de baron de Malicorne et d'Hautefeuille.
Le château d'Hautefeuille, tombé en ruine, a été démoli dans les années 1970 et remplacé par les bâtiments d'un centre de vacances pour enfants. Seules subsistent quelques dépendances, les douves et l'entrée de l'ancien domaine.Media in category "Domaine d'Hautefeuille-St-Martin-s-Ouanne"
