History

[edit]

Frank A. DeChristopher, Sr., was a photographer whose studio was located at 625 Hamilton Street from 1947-1986. Born in Allentown on 11 September 1919, DeChristopher served in World War II in the United States Army. He saw combat in Italy and was awarded with 5 Bronze Stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead (Salerno Day) and Rifle Cal 30 Sharpshooter medals. Returning to Allentown after the war ended, DeChristopher started DeLynn Studio in 1947 with Evelyn Weil. He purchased the business by 1950 and became one of the most well-known photographers in Pennsylvania. He retired in 1986 and the bushiness was sold, along with the business name. The owner of the DeChristopher studios closed in November 1997 after filing bankruptcy. The property subsequently was sold and the storefront was used for other businesses, unrelated to photography. As of 2020, the property is currently vacant. Frank DeChristopher passed on 9 February 2016 at age 96.
