English: Court dress (mantua) of blue silk with metallic-thread embroidery, British, ca. 1750. The dress consists of three parts (overdress, petticoat, and stomacher). Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number C.I.65.13.1a, b, and c.
- NB: The Metropolitan Museum of Art database describes this gown as a robe à la française (or sack-back gown), but it clearly does not have the box pleats from neck to hem that define the sack-back gown.
