English: Conscription numbers are precursors of modern day adresses introduced in the Habsburg empire in the 18th century. The main difference is that conscription numbers are not organized through streets. House numbers of this kind are widespread in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where houses often still display not only their address but also their conscription number. In Austria many house numbers of this type can still be seen as well.
