Laodicea of Canaan (in Phoenician: 𐤋𐤀𐤃𐤊𐤀 𐤀𐤔 𐤁𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 – "Laodicea which is in Canaan" or 𐤋𐤀𐤃𐤊𐤀 𐤀𐤌 𐤁𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 – "Laodicea, a metropolis (lit. "mother") in Canaan"; in Greek it appears as a monogram of the letters ΛΑΦ, which mean Λαοδίκεια ἡ ἐν Φοινίκῃ) is a city attested in Phoenician coins around the 2nd century BC. It is identified by most scholars with Berytus (others identify it with Laodicea ad mare, see Nahoum Slouschz (1942), Thesaurus of Phoenician Inscriptions (in Hebrew), Dvir, pp. 46–47).
