Coat of arms (1259-1453) of the House of Palaiologos, Emperors of Byzantium. The four Bs, or fire steels (Greek: Πυρεκβόλα - Pyrekvola), may represent the initials of the family's motto King of Kings, Ruling Over Rulers (Greek: Βασιλεύς Βασιλέων, Βασιλεύων Βασιλευόντων - Vasilefs Vasileon, Vasilevon Vasilevonton). The initials were added to the family's original arms after the ascent of Michael VIII Palaeologus to the imperial throne. (Source: Rietstap's Armorial)
