Teodora Visconti was the daughter of Paolino Visconti, who was part of the Milanese troops who lived in Castiglion Fiorentino during the war against Florence, by his wife Lorenza Guiducci (who commissioned the painting, inscribed on a scroll above the shield "Laurentia Fie(ri) Fecit" ("Lorenza caused it to be made")
