[edit]

w:Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham (1455-1483), KG, was the only son of Humphrey Stafford, Earl of Stafford (the eldest son of Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Anne Neville) by his wife Margaret Beaufort, a daughter of Edmund Beaufort, 2nd Duke of Somerset. He married Catherine Woodville, a daughter of Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers and a sister of Elizabeth Woodville, wife of King Edward IV.

Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham, 6th Earl of Stafford, 7th Baron Stafford (1402-1460), KG, was the only son of w:Edmund Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford, by his wife w:Anne of Gloucester, the eldest daughter and eventual sole heiress of w:Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester, 6th and youngest (but 5th surviving) son of King Edward III. The Stafford Dukes of Buckingham therefore bore the royal arms of w:Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester, not as a quartering as would be conventional, but in the 1st quarter, as a mark of royal favour
