The City of the Dead is a name for the Cairo Necropolis (al-Qarafa in Arabic), a vast area of cemeteries, tombs and mausoleums adjoining historic Cairo. It is roughly divided into the Northern Cemetery and Southern Cemetery. In addition to cemeteries, it also contains certain neighborhoods.
