The City Hotel was built about 1904 at 28-30 North Seventh Street in Allentown. It was aimed for both traveling businessmen as well as the general public. From all accounts, it operated successfully for several decades, just to the north of Center Square with close access to the Central Business and Shopping District. The hotel closed in 1937 due to larger, more modern hotels in the city. The building itself was renovated with the removal of the fourth floor, and the structure being subdivided into separate buildings and retail storefronts.
