Originally opened as the "Avondale Palm Room" in September 1935 in the first floor of the Breinig & Bachman Building, 546-548 Hamilton Street, the southeast corner of Sixth and Hamilton Streets. The Palm Room was a popular nightclub, offering dining and dancing. In October 1939, the Palm Room had its liquor license revoked by the Pennsylvania liquor control board on account of morals violation of the license due to a nude dancing incident in the club. The club announced its closing shortly afterwards, but remained open as a non-liquor teen dancing facility. In April 1941, the club reopened as the Circlon Club under new ownership and returned to the same combination nightclub and restaurant format, offering night club entertainment as well as dinner and also a lunch counter during the day. In October 1944, the club suffered a major fire starting in the kitchen, that required a major reconstruction of the building. It reopened in September 1945. The club operated until March 1960 when it closed.
