English: There is some church jargon associated with the name. A koimesis is a falling asleep (as in cemetary, the place where the deceased sleep). The Latin equivalent is dormition, from dormire, "to sleep." Theotokos is "Mother of God." The church celebrates the falling asleep (in the Christian religion death is a sleep) and serene ascent of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. It is believed to have been placed on the leveled site of the akropolis of Aeginium, and to include in its wall fragments of the former temple of Apollo there.
