Built in the late 6th century A.D., it is the largest church discovered in Umm er-Rasas. The complex consists of the church and a series of annex rooms and courtyards. It is the only church in Umm er-Rasas with three apses. The raised central presbyterium was well preserved with, exceptionally in situ, the steps leading to the chancel. It was named after a part of the mosaic showing fierce lions.
