The Church, dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary to the Temple, is the first Greek Orthodox Church built in the Beyoğlu region. It was built by Hacı Komninos Kalfa during the reign of Suladan Selim III, and with the renovations and additions made over time, it became a large basilica with five naves.
