English: Roman Catholic Church Of Saint Francis. Listed ID 41. History: Former Djami of Sokollu (Sokoli) Mustafa and dervish monastery. After Ottoman period (end of the 17th-century) the Bosnian Franciscan monks (the 'cseri friends') got this/these place(s). The monks started to built a monastery (1703). In 1726 the monastery and a sidechapel (named to Saint Anthony of Padua) finished. In 1731 started to built a church by Hans Jakab mason. The church is finished in 1741. The pulpit and benches made by a local monk and Károly Bebo (personal sculptor of Count Zichy) in 1752. Consecrated on September 18, 1757 to Saint Francis of Assisi by Bishop Károly József Kiskalácsini Zbisko. Emperor Joseph II. gave the church and the monastery to the Elizabeth sisters of Vienna in 1785. Facade: Tuscan pilasters, lively parapet, tower on the south side, worshiping angel statues with with the coat of arms of Saint Francis order (the two crossed arms with wounded hands, one of its is symbol of the Savior, the another symbol of Saint Francis of Assisi, above the arms a double cross is situated), under the coat of arms is Latin inscription: It shows the beginning of the construction of the church (1731), and its completion (1740), above the coat of arms is the statue of the Immaculate Virgin (trample a serpent's head, the serpent winding around the globe, three angel's head appears under the globe. central part of facade decorated with a tympanum on its a bishop statue (Saint Louis or Saint Benvenuto can be see. North of the statue of the Immaculate stand the statue of Saint Francis of Assisi holding a crucifix. South of the Immaculate stand (in a niche) a statue of Saint Anthony of Padua with the child Jesus. The four sides open spire (tower) ends pyramid form with wrought-iron cross. Interior: The nave splitted into three parts by two lines of pillars. The length of the nave 24m, width is 17m and height of its almost 20m. The sanctuary is twelve meters deep, nine meters wide and the fresco of the vault of its shows the the Porciunkula farewell scene (a miracle at the S. Maria degli Angeli church in Assisi) painted by Gergely Vogl in 1756. The new frescoes the glorification and ascension of Virgin Mary (Virgin Mary, angels, the Holy Trinity, the four evangelists). Three balconies are painted on the sidewalls of the sanctuary with spectator figures: Peter Bernuccca (Italian patron), secular leaders of the church on the opposite side are the monastery superiors (wearing canonicals). The nave thre main frescoes are: Annunciation, the Holy Family in Bethlehem and Resurrection of Jesus. The top of the main altar is dominated by a statue of the Holy Trinity. In addition to the columns stand statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, their attributes (the keys and the sword) holds angels. The altarpiece shows 'Stigmatization of Saint Francis of Assisi' (when the five wounds of Christ appeared). Saint Anne altar (N): The altarpiece by József Schöfft in 1829 (Saint Anne teaching the child Mary in the background stand Saint Joachim); the statues: Apostle Saint Jacob and Saint John the Baptist. Saint Florian altar (S., opp. Saint Anne altar): The altarpiece by Karl Held in 1829 (Saint Florian and a 'firefighter' angel) created to commemorate the fire Tabán in the 1810s; the statues: Saint Giles and Saint John the Baptist. Immaculate (Virgin Mary) altar (N): Immaculata Statue (in a niche mid part of the Altar) above its IHS (three letters of Jesus name in Greek (means: Jesus, the savior of people), two more statues are here: Saint Joseph holding baby Jesus and Saint James the Greater; on top is the God's eye and initials of Mary. Holy Cross altar (S, opp. Immaculate altar): the main part of the altar is occupied by crucifix; statues here: Sorrowful Madonna and Saint John the Apostle and Elisabeth of Hungary. Saint Anthony of Padua altar (N): Altapiece: Saint Anthony of Padua in his arms sitting the child Jesus (oldest paintings, in this church) Elisabeth of Hungary alms offer on a painting; statues: Pope Gregory the Great and Saint Jerome. Plague's Saints altar (S): Altapiece: Trinity and the Virgin Mary, Saint Charles Borromeo, Francis de Sales, Saint Anthony of Padua; at the bottom are Saint Sebastian, Saint Rosalia lying in the cave, and the patient's patron, St. Roch.
