Catholic processions in Vietnam are a long-established practice of inculturation. Christian devotions have been well adapted into Vietnamese tradition of festivals. The carving and gilding styles of kiệu (wooden litters) are based on local aesthetics. Some people wear traditional clothes to present the magnificence of the procession. Ceremonial items (such as thánh giá nến cao, nghi trượng: bát bửu, cờ, lọng, tán, tàn), drums, gongs, flutes and other traditional instruments are used alongside Western labrosones.
