English: Christe Sanctorum is, in anglophone hymnaries, the name of a hymn tune used since the beginnig of the 20th century with several English texts such as "Christ is the world's light" and "Father, we praise thee". The earliest print of the tune seems to be found in François de la Feillée's Méthode pour apprendre les règles du plain-chant, 1782 edition (1), with the words of the Latin hymnus "Christe pastorum caput atque princeps", metrically congruent (Sapphic stanza) with "Christe sanctorum decus angelorum". Contrarily to some hymnologic sources, the tune does not occur in the 1681 Antiphonarium Parisiense, where "Christe pastorum caput" in fact is combined with the old "Christe sanctorum decus" Gregorian chant (which shows some fugitive consonances with Feillée's version).
