Among guitar tunings, a regular tuning has uniform musical-intervals between its successive strings: Regular tunings allow guitarists to shift fingerings for notes and chords around the fretboard, simplifying learning and improvisation. Popular regular-tunings include

• major-thirds tuning A♭-C-E-A♭-C-E,
• all-fourths tuning E-A-D-G-C-F, and
• new standard tuning C-G-D-A-E-G (which approximates all-fifths tuning C-G-D-A-E-B).

In contrast, standard tuning E-A-D-G-B-E mixes a major-third interval (G,B) with four perfect-fourth intervals {(E,A),(A,D),(D,G),(B,E)}.
