To the northeast of the theatre, and sharing some of its walls, there are the remains of a castle from Byzantine times, that may date from the 7th century and has been adapted in Seljuk times. From it one has fine views of the plain below. In particular scenes of the Ionic Stoa and its surroundings from here provide a good insight in the setting.
