The Casa di Orione (House of Orion), discovered in the 19th century excavations of Pompeii, was rediscovered during restoration work in 2018 under the auspices of the EU-funded Pompeii Project. The house takes its name from a mosaic in the left wing depicting the transformation of the hunter Orion into a celestial constellation by the will of Zeus. Another mosaic in one of the cubiculums also depicts Orion as a hunter aided by a butterfly. Unlike many houses in Pompeii, the House of Orion is decorated in the First Style with wall surfaces painted to look like colored stone blocks.
