The destroyer Carabiniere (D 551). was transformed, in 1960, in experiment ship, with the pennant number A 5314, for the purpose of trial the 76mm/L62 Allargato. Afterwards she was used by the special forces of COMSUBIN. for training; in March 1978 she was sold to Ortona Shipyard for demolition. Just outside La Spezia harbour the ship sank, was then recovered to be towed to a close shipyard to be demolished.
