Canopy of Marie Louise Gonzaga
The original canopy of Queen Marie Louise Gonzaga was divided and transformed into 2 dalmatics and a chasuble donated by the Queen to the Visitationist Monastery in Warsaw. The canopy was adorned with 2 pegasuses, a winged dragon, an eagle, panoplies and a cartouche with a Polish White Eagle with the Vasa Sheaf, allusions to the final victory over Swedes in 1660. The symbols of salamander, eagle, dolphin, basilic, phoenix and a lion are allusions to Four elements and to heraldic emblems of the House of Valois, Gonzaga and de Clèves (Queen's ancestors). All embroideries were probably created by the Queen herself.
