English: Canfield Park in Saratoga Springs, New York, was the name given to the formal gardens created by Richard Canfield after he bought the Saratoga Clubhouse – which became the Canfield Casino – in 1894. In 1911 he sold the casino and its grounds to the city of Saratoga Springs, which, in 1913, combined them with the grounds of the demolished Congress Hotel and Congress Spring Bottling Plant to create Congress Park. Canfield Park includes the section called the "Italian Gardens", because it was modeled after Italian Renaissance gardens. In the section is the 'Palladin Circle, which consists of four statue standing in a semi-circle around a sundial. Two of the statues are satyrs (half-goat and half-man) and two are Maenads (female followers of Dionysus). Reproductions of the original statues were put in place in 2007, although the sundial is original and has been restored. The sundial is thought to be a copy of one in Lugano, Switzerland.
