The Butterfield House apartment building, at 37 West 12th Street and 20 West 13th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1962 and was designed in 1959 by with William J. Conklin (associate in charge of design) and James R. Rossant of Mayer, Whittlesey & Glass. The building is 7 stories on 12th Street, but rises to 13 stories on 13th Street, where the surrounding buildings are taller. The AIA Guide to NYC calls it "The friendly neighborhood high rise", and the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission cites it as an example of "urban harmony" between modern architecture and older forms. It is located within the Greenwich Village Historic District. (Source: AIA Guide to NYC (4th ed.) and "NYCLPC Greenwich Village Historic District Designation Report, volume 1")
