English: D6953 entered service with British Rail in January 1965. It was renumbered 37253 in February 1974 then rebuilt and renumbered 37699 in December 1985. Despite the high number this was the first locomotive refurbished in this programme, numbers of late series class 37s refurbished for freight work were allocated from 699 downwards while early series locomotives started from 501 upwards the following year.
