The Smartie Tube was named more recently than most rocks on the site. It is not a rock, but a cylindrical hole in a rock. It was probably formed by a roll of vegetable matter which was originally enclosed in sand or sedimentary silt, and then compressed over time into rock. The vegetable section may have been softer then the rest of the rock, so that it eroded away leaving the millstone grit that surrounded it.
