The Bremer Haus ("Bremish house") is a typical type of tarrace-house in the suburbs of Bremen. It was develloped mid 19th century, when the medieval night closure of the city entrances was abolished and industrial age began in Bremen. To avoid social quarrels, people of all classes should live somehow residential in their own houses. Thus for decades almost all new built homes had a similar structure, though in different sizes. In 19th century, no more thna three neighbouring houses were really equal. Sometimes they were built by different architects. Sometimes four or even eight Houses formed a sophisticated composition, together imitating one large building. Such composed rows wer called "Palastbauweise" ("Palace Style"). Gradually modified, houses in Bremen were built by this scheme down to the beginning of World War II.
