Boray, Boambilly and Burrowaree were completed in 1947 by Walkers Ltd in Maryborough, Queensland.
They were the first modern sea-going diesel tugs owned by Australia, being fitted with National diesels. The Boray type were 99ft overall and had a displacement tonnage of more than 280 tons. They could make 10 knots and were fitted with very powerful water-pumps for their roles as dual purpose fire and towage tugs.
