English: The Blue Star Memorials in the United States are memorials meant to pay tribute to the U.S. armed forces. They include Memorial Highways, Memorial Markers and Memorial By-ways. The National Council of State Garden Clubs, now known as National Garden Clubs, started the program in 1945 solely for Blue Star Memorial Highways after World War II. The program was expanded to include Memorial Markers and Memorial By-ways by 1994. While highway markers are often seen in rest areas, non-highway markers are used in National Cemeteries, parks, veterans facilities, and gardens.
