English: The Basilica Cistern is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that still lie beneath the city of Istanbul, former Constantinople, Turkey.
Italiano: La cosiddetta "Cisterna basilica" (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) è un enorme serbatoio d'acqua di epoca bizantina costruita spogliando monumenti greci e romani delle loro colonne, per costruire un immenso spazio vuoto sotterraneo, sostenuto appunto da una foresta di colonne. Oggi la cisterna ha solo una funzione turistica.
