English: The Barrack of the 6th Infantry Regiment was located in the Ninomaru enceinte of Nagoya Castle. It was constructed in 1872-3 and dismantled in 1963 and relocated to the Museum Meiji-mura in 1965. The building area was 389.2 m2. The structure is a two-storied wooden building. It was donated by the Tokai Financial Bureau.
The barrack was for the army of the new government of the Meiji restoration, set up utilizing the Nagoya Castle that was once the residential castle of the Owari lords of the Tokugawa clan. The army of that time was modeled on French imitations and designing of the barrack also consulted French books on architecture with Japanese elements in a style called giyōfū. Upon transfer, the length of the building was reduced to about 70% of the original scale.[1]
