BT-9 ("Beobachtungsturm-9) is a type of watchtower built for the East German borderguards at the Inner German border or at the wall around West-Berlin.

The square shape with slender dimensions of 2 by 2 metres is characteristic for this tower type, as the other common square border tower type (BT 4x4 / FüSt) is wider with dimensions of 4 x 4 metres and has a more squat look. The other visual key difference between the two types are the windows on the top floor: The windows of the BT-9 do run the full width of the tower, giving a 360° field of view, whereas the windows in the BT 4x4 do not.

Each side in the turret has a four windows. There used to be search lights installed on the roof, which could be directed from inside the turret. The standard height of this tower is 9 metres, hence BT-9, but it could be erected with differing heights according to terrain. Alternative names are BTv 2x2.
