English: BT-11 ("Beobachtungsturm-11") is a type of watchtower built for the East German borderguards at the Inner German border or at the wall around West-Berlin. The octagonal shape of the castle turret and the round shaft are characteristic for this tower type. Each of the eight facets in the turret has a window and a loophole in a steel plate below. There used to be search lights installed on the roof, which could be directed from inside the turret. The standard height of this tower is 11 metres, hence BT-11, but it could be erected with differing heights according to terrain.
