Ann Street, Edinburgh was created by the painter Sir Henry Raeburn on his estate in 1817 and is named after his wife Ann Edgar. Raeburn worked with the architect James Milne. The street was described by Sir John Betjeman as "..the most attractive in the whole of Britain..." The author J.M. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, based his 1902 novel 'Quality Street' on Ann Street.
