English: Ancient Roman sarcophagi (relief sarcophagi) were produced in many regions of the Roman Empire. The vast majority of these luxury products have come from three regions though:
- Rome (metropolitan workshops) – some 6,000 sarcophagi and fragments known today (estimation by Guntram Koch, 1982)
- Athens and its surroundings (Attic workshops) – some 1,000 sarcophagi and fragments known today
- Asia Minor (some 400 from Dokimeion/Docimium, plus additional ones from other towns)
- ... and smaller numbers from elsewhere (Danube provinces, Thessaloniki, Gaul, ...).
