This was a continuation of the Trident 2 introduced in 1997 by Dennis, which then became part of the Transbus product line between Jan 2001 - May 2004, and was lastly produced by Alexander Dennis until being phased out in 2006. The Trident 2 name was retained on the chassis plates of the model's replacement, introduced by Alexander Dennis in 2005 and marketed as the Enviro400.
